The European Union might “act quickly and firmly” in response to what it calls “unjustified” visa bans imposed by the US on five Europeans involved in fighting digital hatred and misinformation, a European Commission spokesperson stated.
EU Officials Condemn US Move as ‘Intimidation’
Officials from Europe including Emmanuel Macron accused Washington of “coercion and intimidation”, following the visa restrictions were placed on individuals who have been at the heart of campaigns to enact laws regulating American tech companies.
“For far too long, ideologues in Europe have spearheaded organised efforts to pressure American platforms to punish American viewpoints they oppose,” wrote the US secretary of state online. “The current administration will not stand for these egregious acts of censorship beyond its borders.”
